Primary Duties: The qualified candidate will assist attorneys in EPD with tasks such as using publicly available information to gather facts about potential environmental violations; drafting correspondence with internal and external parties; entering and analyzing data using Microsoft Excel; conducting site visits to facilities throughout the Commonwealth; preparing court documents for filing; researching topics related to environmental litigation and advocacy; and drafting factual memoranda for potential cases.
The Paralegal will also be responsible for various administrative duties, including scheduling meetings, filing, mailing, record keeping, and other clerical duties. The Paralegal handles critical and confidential materials and helps ensure the highest level of professionalism in EPD. This is a fast-paced, high-profile work environment that requires the ability to work on a range of complex matters, often under time pressure.
Position Qualifications: Applicants must possess strong writing, communication, and organizational skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word; the ability to assimilate legal and technical information; a willingness to learn online mapping tools, including Google Earth Pro; strong attention to detail; and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team. Strong work ethic and sound judgment are essential.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. A background in Environmental Sciences/Studies is preferred, but not necessary. A current driver’s license is required. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.
Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt. This is a full-time temporary position with benefits through June 30, 2022. This position has designated funding with the possibility of renewal.
