Director of Financial Reporting

Duties Include:

  • Manage and mentor staff responsible for implementing new accounting standards, researching complex technical accounting issues and documenting technical references.
  • Responsible for all financial data and specific sections within the ETA monthly and quarterly Fillings.

  • Prepare the internal process for completing ACFR audits.

  • Proactively monitor changes to the business to provide timely technical accounting considerations.

  • Responsible for Financial Statement consolidations, inter-agency accounting and reconciliations between quarterly financial reports and GAAP financial reports.

  • Drive Agency-wide financial compliance including the documentation of end-to-end processes, formal implementation of internal controls, and the creation of corporate governance over internal controls.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability and motivation to work collaboratively across departments and functions, as well as working independently with minimal oversight.

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, highly detailed, organized and able to handle multiple competing deadlines.

  • Knowledge of the principals and practices of financial management, including financial analysis, GAAP, GAGAS, GASB and reporting.

  • Knowledge of the financial principals, practices, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the agency's financial operations.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of management including planning, organizing, directing, motivating, controlling, and decision making.

  • Knowledge of the principals and practices of GAAP, accounting, auditing and business management.

  • Knowledge of agency programs and operational practices and procedures.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with senior agency, state, and federal managers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in oral expression.

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems in a timely, effective manner.

  • Ability to motivate staff who must produce quality work in short time frames with little external recognition.

  • Ability to analyze both program and financial data and draw relevant conclusions from the data.

  • Ability to develop large systems which will complement all the disparate data available at DWD.

  • Ability to work with a PC in spreadsheet and word processing applications.

  • Ability of work accurately with multiple priorities within defined time frames.


Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in financial management work (i.e. budgeting, accounting, auditing, management analysis, program evaluation, financial reporting of program results), of which (B) at least one (1) year must have been in a project management, supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience.

II. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience.

III. A Graduate degree or higher in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience.

IV. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required (A) experience.
